Our hunting guides are consummate professionals, very experienced and extremely knowledgeable. They are passionate hunters and enjoy nothing more than getting a hunter lined up on a trophy. They are good company and fun to spend a day with in the hills.

Mark McGlashan

Mark's great passions include hunting, fishing and the great outdoors. Having hunted all his life Mark enjoys nothing better than guiding a hunter on to a trophy of a life time. He revels in the experience of raising deer and managing the deer herds.

His dry sense of humour and unassuming nature have made Mark a very popular member of the guiding team. For Mark and his wife Julie, moving to Poronui seven years ago was an easy decision.

Andrew Scurr

Andrew hails from Wanaka where his passion for farming, hunting, fishing and travel steered him in the direction of vet school. Having returned from a locum stint in the UK Andrew settled with his wife Sarah and family in Taupo. Andrew manages to combine guiding during the season with his career as a vet.

Neil Philpott

Neil understands hunting sika deer better than anyone. The author of "Sika Hunter" and creator of the videos "Sika Safari" and "Hunting New Zealand", Neil has hunted and guided on Poronui for years - helping clients achieve some magnificent trophies. Neil lives and breathes Sika, and is just as motivated training newcomers to get their first deer as he is guiding experienced hunters to monster trophy stags.

Neil also has probably the largest sika deer trophy collection in the Southern Hemisphere, if not globally, with over 60 trophy eight point Sika Stags.

Chris Brennan

Born and bred in the Taupo region Chris has been a professional guide since the early 90's. As the fishing season wanes he embraces the hunting season with a fun and enthusiastic approach to his guiding and the desire to provide the ultimate experience.

Allen Williams

When not running his extensive sheep and cattle farm Alan is either chasing the wily Sika or on the ocean game fishing. Being out in the bush is very much part of the hunting experience for Alan. There is nothing Alan enjoys more than getting a client lined up on a trophy of a life time.

Keith Burden

Keith is not only a deer and sheep farmer but also a velvet buyer, and stock agent. Hunting, particularly hunting Sika has been a passion of Keith’s from a very young age. His love of the outdoors and thrill of the stalk is infectious. As Keith says the challenge of guiding a hunter, be they novice or experienced, on a wily Sika is a very special experience. The successful clean shot tops it off.

David Evans

Dave, our property manager at Glazebrook - has been farming since he left school. Dave has worked at properties around the South Island and is now home leasing the family farm, a 3700ha high country property called Stronvar, running merino sheep and angus cattle.

Dave is a keen hunter, mainly of deer, pigs, goats, chamois and ducks, and he has also hunted wallaby in South Canterbury and deer in North Mexico. He gets around - not only has Dave played over 70 rugby games for Marlborough (the Red Devils) NPC Div 2 team - including 2 Ranfurly Shield challenges and a international vs Fiji, he played as a professional in Northern Ireland for 2 seasons. Lucky for us he has now retired and is available to guide at Glazebrook when required!

Snow Hewetson

Snow has over thirty years hunting experience and has successfully hunted all New Zealand game animals other than rusa and wapiti. He has taken several record book tahr trophies including a 14 inch bull that earned a bronze medal from the NZ Deerhunting Association. In addition to his obvious experience, Snow is a Hunts Course instructor with NZDA, has a diploma in Outdoor Leadership (Hunts), a certificate in Outdoor Leadership (Maintaining Safety), and a certificate in Outdoor Leadership (Bush Instructor). He is a Range Officer and a 4WD driver training specialist. Snow has been guiding for six years and really enjoys meeting and working with people from all walks of life.

David Griffiths

Dave Griffiths lives in Blenheim with this wife Ness and two children Jed and Georgie. He works his guiding around his career as a builder. Dave has hunted his whole life particularly throughout the South Island and Stewart Island. He has successfully hunted Red Deer, Fallow, White Tail, Tahr, Chamois and Pigs. Having hunted extensively himself he now enjoys the challenge of guiding and meeting interesting fellow hunters. In his spare time Dave loves spending time with family as well as hunting and spear fishing with friends.

Mike Darling

Like many New Zealanders Mike grew up hunting, from small game to the coveted trophies. He has hunted successfully throughout New Zealand and his passion for the sport has also taken him overseas. The more challenging the hunt the more Mike enjoys it particularly the Glazebrook country.

Tom Loughlin

A descendant from the Central North Island Maori tribe, Tom enjoys sharing the Maori view of the outdoors when guiding. ‘Look after the land and it will look after you’ a saying from his father has been a very strong guiding influence. Tom has a very strong affinity with New Zealand flora and fauna.

Marc Clinch

Marc, lives for the great outdoors and all it has to offer. Originally from Northland, he eventually migrated further south to the hunting and fishing mecca of the North Island - Taupo. Marc worked in the retail industry for various outdoor stores, including managing the hunting department.

While he enjoyed retail it was a natural progression to move into guided hunting and fishing. His genuine interest in people, his easy going personality coupled with his passion for hunting are all attributes of a professional guide.

Marcus Adlam

The newest addition to the hunting team is Marcus, a born and bred New Zealander from Tolaga Bay on the North Island. Although he has spent a lot of his life hunting around the world, the first deer Marcus ever shot was on a Heli Sika trip from Poronui when he was just 9 years old – and now he is back.

Marcus is a straight-talking guide who will lead you on an epic hunt. When's he's not hunting, he can be found dry fly-fishing for rainbow in the river or enjoying a wilderness adventure with partner Jemma. Full of great stories, why not ask Marcus about his four seasons spent hunting brown bear and moose in Alaska.
