Poronui received a Conservation award in Turangi on Thursday 2 December. Every year for the past seventeen years the Tongariro Taupo Conservation Board and the Department of Conservation has given Conservation Awards to members of the public, organisations and agencies who in their opinion have made a positive contribution to conservation in the conservancy.
Poronui received the award for our efforts and support for conservation including:
- providing support and access for our biodiversity and recreational work
- working with the department to ensure ongoing public access across Poronui
- protection of a large tract of native forest on Poronui
- the protection of habitat of endangered smooth scaled skinks on the property
- support for small scaled skink research.
